PTC plans summer ship for Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2

13 Apr, 2004

PTC announced plans to ship Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 in the second quarter of 2004. The new version includes 3D drawing capability that complies with the ASME Y14.41 standard for 3D drawing. The standard establishes requirements for the preparation and rvision of digital product definition data, or data sets. PTC expects this standard to form the basis of an upcoming ISO standard as well.

"3D drawings are the perfect blend of the 2D and 3D worlds, allowing downstream users to consult the product model and view all the data they need, annotated directly on the model itself," said Brian Shepherd, senior vice president of product management.

The new interface introduced in Wildfire 1 has been extended to sheet-metal, simulation, and other functions. Joe Greco detailed the new Warp technology in his MCAD Tech News newsletter.

Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 adds import capability for UGS PLM I-DEAS models and associative data exchange capabilities for both the CATIA V5 and Unigraphics NX applications.

"With Pro/ENGINEER, we have been able to make crucial race-week adjustments—redesigning, manufacturing, and delivering revised components to our race teams in a matter of hours," said Tim Cindric, president of Penske Racing, Inc. "Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 possesses some key capabilities which will take our skill in executing rapid product refinement to a whole new level."

PTC's Partner Advantage Program includes more than 200 companies, and 30 of those build products based on PTC’s Granite geometric kernel. Among those planning to support Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 at its release are Adobe Systems, ATI Technologies, Blue Ridge Numerics, Cadenas PARTsolutions, CADTRAIN, CD adapco Group, Fishbowl Solutions, Groove Networks, Raindrop Geomagic, OPEN MIND Technologies, Sigmetrix, Simmetrix, Theorem Solutions, and Thomas Industrial Network.
