This Week's Software Tips

Submit. Publish. Spend!
Do you know a better way to work — in AutoCAD or any other CAD software tool? Take a few minutes to share your tips with your fellow CAD users, and benefit yourself at the same time: If we publish your original tip, you can earn an Amazon gift card — it's that easy! Learn all about CAD Tips prizes here.

AutoCAD Tip: New Revision Cloud Grips
Kent Elrod shared this tip about AutoCAD 2016's new RevCloudGrips system variable for improved revision cloud editing. For example, if you make a revision cloud from a polygon, setting RevCloudGrips to On enables the grips to work the same as the geometric shape. "Using an existing object as a starting point for your revision cloud gives you more control over future edits." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

AutoCAD Tip: Double Up a Revision Cloud
This tip, also from Kent Elrod, piggybacks on the one above for even more revision cloud control. The improved RevCloud command in AutoCAD 2016 will make the cloud look more random and give you grips at every bulge to allow you to drag the cloud shape around, while keeping the maximum arc size the same. View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Civil 3D Tip: Project 3D Objects to Section and Profile Views
Have you ever had to hand-draw objects into your profile or section views for reference in AutoCAD Civil 3D? R.T. Rinehart explains how to create a solid and project it to achieve the same purpose, thereby saving time. "One big advantage to this tip is that the projected objects are part of the profile or section, as opposed to manually drawing plain AutoCAD objects." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Submit Your Tip

Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. Be sure to tell us which software version you use. If we publish your original, previously unpublished tip, you can earn a gift card (learn more about prizes here). Please submit only tips or code that are your original work. By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your tip in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to submitted tips.

By submitting code, you agree that your code can be reused as-is or modified by other users in conjunction with AutoCAD or other software programs to gain efficiencies in that software for professional or personal use, and that your code can be shared freely among users. Users do not have the right to republish code in any manner or format (such as on a blog web site or in a printed document) for personal or commercial gain without written permission from Cadalyst and the original author.
