Free Calculator for the U-Values of Various Construction Types
AEC software developer TiSoft has released a free U-value calculator to calculate the U-value, or overall heat transfer coefficient, of any construction type. Users can browse through the library of materials and produce PDF reports of the construction types with their 2D and 3D cross sections. Each project may contain one or more construction types, and can be saved for future reference.

Project Soane Mission Seeks BIM Contest Contributions
Organizers of the crowdsourced Project Soane Mission are seeking designs for the reconstruction of Sir John Soane's Bank of England. The contest seeks contributions that use modern building information modeling (BIM) technologies to collaboratively re-create classical architectural forms. In this first of two phases, $20,000 worth of prizes will be awarded. The deadline for the first phase is November 15, 2015.

Canada BIM Council Announces National CanBIM Awards Recipients
The Canada BIM Council (CanBIM) announced the winners of the National CanBIM Awards, which recognize excellence in Canada's building information modeling (BIM) community. Quebec-based general contractor Pomerleau earned first place in the Innovation and Best in BIM categories. Architecture and interior design firm DIALOG of Calgary received first prize in the Interoperability category.

Spark Awards Issues Call for Design Entries
Organizers of the Spark Awards have issued a call for designs in a variety of categories, including communication, transport, spaces, digital, experience, health, and more. The competition also has two new categories: Spark WEAR for wearable technology and Spark Cause for designs that provide solutions to problems facing the world's less fortunate. The deadline for entries is October 30, 2015.

GPU Technology Conference Announces Call for Submissions
The GPU Technology Conference (GTC) 2016, presented by NVIDIA, has issued a call for submissions on design topics that showcase visual computing and graphics processing unit (GPU)-based innovations such as natural language processing, gesture control, computer vision, and deep learning. The deadline for submissions is October 13, 2015.

Vectorworks Hosts BIM Camp Events
Vectorworks will host six BIM Camp events in major U.S. cities — Boston, New York, Chicago, New Orleans, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. These four-hour workshops will offer building information modeling (BIM) training as well as the opportunity to earn three American Institute of Architects learning units (LUs) and one Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) credit for completing any one of the sessions.

Printers: HP PageWide XL 5000 MFP
The HP PageWide XL 5000 multifunction printer (MFP) was designed to provide small- to medium-sized reprographic houses and enterprise central reprographic departments (CRDs) mid-volume technical document production at speeds as fast as 14 D/A1-size prints per minute. The MFP reportedly consumes five times less energy than comparable LED printers.
