DeskArtes Updates Free CAD Conversion Tool for 3D Printing and Simulation
DeskArtes has released an updated version of View Expert, a free solution for CAD/CAM professionals and hobbyists to check and repair 3D models for production with 3D printing systems. According to the company, View Expert enables DeskArtes 3D color printing customers to convert a CAD model or assembly for 3D color printing.

Nemetschek Vectorworks has launched the 2015 Vectorworks Design Scholarship program for students across all design disciplines. To apply, students should submit their individual or group work by August 31, 2015. Winners will be announced on October 15, 2015.

ExactFlat Online Launches Beta Program
ExactFlat Online, a cloud-based 3D-to-2D flattening solution, is offering a free beta testing program until May 18, 2015. Interested parties can register online to access the program. According to the company, the software enables users upload and flatten 3D models into 2D pattern pieces.

ASCENT Publishes 2016 Courseware Roadmap for Autodesk Official Training Guides
Rand Worldwide, an engineering design and information technology provider, announced that its courseware division, ASCENT – Center for Technical Knowledge, has released seven additional Autodesk Official Training Guides (AOTG) for Autodesk 2016 software, along with ASCENT's Autodesk 2016 Courseware Roadmap. The newly released titles are available through ASCENT's online store at ASCENTeStore.com in both print and eBook formats.

Strata 3D University Releases Reflective Materials Video Tutorial
Strata 3D University is offering a video tutorial series about reflective materials. Strata Design 3D CX is 3D modeling and animation software for Mac and PC platforms. According to the company, the first tutorial in the series walks through the basics of using the fresnel interpolator to create realistic materials. It also discusses concepts like incidence angle and energy balance. The first tutorial is available free for a limited time.

AEC: Autodesk Urban Canvas
Autodesk announced the release of Autodesk Urban Canvas, a solution developed for professionals to design, analyze, and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders of regional and urban planning projects. According to the company, the software enables editing and sharing data for parcels, buildings, zoning, and development projects.

Printers/Scanners: HP DesignJet SD Pro and HP DesignJet HD Pro
HP has added scanning capabilities to its HP DesignJet product series with the introduction of the HP DesignJet SD Pro and HP DesignJet HD Pro MFP. According to the company, these MFPs enable large-format scanning, copying, and printing capabilities in an all-in-one device. The HP DesignJet SD Pro MFP is a 44" device designed for document reproduction, scanning, and copying technical documents and maps. The HP DesignJet HD Pro MFP has a 42" scanner and 44" printer with CCD technology for image reproduction.
