This Week's Software Tips
Don't Forget to Tip
Do you know a better way to work — in AutoCAD or any other CAD software tool? Why not take a few minutes to share your tips with your fellow CAD users? When you give, you'll also receive: If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use toward a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your tip today!
Create AutoCAD and Revit Videos with Project Chronicle
Engineer Dave Hein points us to an Autodesk Labs preview called Project Chronicle that will record video and audio of a user working in AutoCAD or Revit in order to create a training video. "Do you often need to give a coworker some help with AutoCAD, but you're not in the same office, city, or even country?" View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Drag and Drop to Import Data
Mike Porter shares a method for quickly importing GIS data into AutoCAD Map or Civil3D. "AutoCAD and its verticals have this type of functionality for many tasks," noted Cadalyst tip reviewer Brian Benton. "You can drag and drop a script file, LISP file, block, or other DWG file to insert it or import it into your current file." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Toggle between Paper Space and Model Space
Tipster Adrian Betana shares a LISP routine and other tricks that will help you switch between AutoCAD's Paper and Model Space tabs. "Tired of switching tilemode from model space to layouts?" View the complete tip and post your feedback.
A Workflow for Referencing Your Files
Vladislav Bronin presents a process for a team of designers to use in AutoCAD (and its verticals) when working together on the same project. "Indication of building services on a ceiling layout always requires lots of communication and coordination between electrical, HVAC, heating, and sprinkler designers to make it clear and with no discrepancies." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. Be sure to tell us which software version you use. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please submit only tips or code that are your original work. By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your tip in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to submitted tips.
By submitting code, you agree that your code can be reused as-is or modified by other users in conjunction with AutoCAD or other software programs to gain efficiencies in that software for professional or personal use, and that your code can be shared freely among users. Users do not have the right to republish code in any manner or format (such as on a blog web site or in a printed document) for personal or commercial gain without written permission from Cadalyst and the original author.
