More Bring-Your-Own-Device Advice28 May, 2014 By: Robert Green
If you’re crafting a policy for your workplace, start with this BYOD template from IT Manager Daily.
As a companion piece to CAD Manager’s Newsletter 320 and 321, you may find this article from Megan Berry at IT Manager Daily useful.
Ms. Berry does a great job articulating the core parts of a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policy, which she summarizes as:
- Acceptable Use
- Devices and Support
What I particularly appreciate about Ms. Berry’s write-up is how she insulates the IT/CAD manager from technical support and financial responsibility for employee-provided devices. In fact, she even points out that the employee must take the liability for lost data that arises by their use of these devices. Also worth noting are the templates for cloud computing and social network usage policies included at the end of the write-up.
I hope you find this resource valuable as you work with your management and IT teams to gain control over your BYOD and cloud computing issues.
