Samsung display drives system testing1 Mar, 2003 By: Ron LaFon
We used the new Samsung 191T 190 flat-panel monitor to test all the workstations in this roundup. Shown here with a stand, the configuration we tested, the monitor also offers an accessory arm as an option.
The new 190 SyncMaster 191T and the slightly smaller 180 SyncMaster 181T feature a super-narrow bezel that measures just 18.6mm in width. With the removable base, the displays are designed to be stacked side-by-side or on top of one another for a continuous flow of virtually uninterrupted data, making them ideal for use in stock exchanges, trading floors, and anywhere large amounts of data must be presented on multiple screens. The SyncMaster 191Ts quality makes it an excellent stand-alone display as well.
The SyncMaster 191T includes a PVA (patterned vertical alignment) screen, the latest Samsung patented technology advancement in liquid crystal cell structure for improved viewing. Both new displays feature an extra-wide 1708 viewing angle, an ultra-high 500:1 contrast ratio, and an extremely fast response time of less than 25 milliseconds. Maximum native resolution is 1280×1024.
After using this monitor extensively for this workstation roundup, I can vouch for the brightness of the display and its extra-wide viewing angle. From two or more rooms away I could easily see the display and determine what stage of the test was being performed. The SyncMaster 191T offers a 0.294mm dot pitch, operates in the horizontal range of 3081kHz and vertical sync range of 5685Hz, and has analog and digital inputs. The 191T is mounted on a stand or an accessory arm. It can also be flat-mounted.
Samsungs latest monitors feature a four-stage (On, Stand-by, Suspend, Off) power management system that complies with the VESA DPMS, NUTEK, and Environmental Protection Agencys Energy Star standards. Both the SyncMaster 181T and the SyncMaster 191T meet MPR-II and TCO-99 standards for low radiation levels.
All SyncMaster displays are backed by Samsungs three-year parts, labor, and backlight warranty as well as live, toll-free 24/7 technical support, 365 days a year.
