Something I found accidentally about this feature is, if you hold the control key down while using a crossing lasso and you touch on a polyline it will only select the portion of the polyline you touch. You can erase that portion and leave the rest of the polyline intact. Works on polygons as well. Wasn't sure if you were aware of this or not.
