Ensure That Your AutoCAD Text Is Readable7 Sep, 2014
We certainly want the text in AutoCAD to be at an angle that is easy to read — but what is the fastest way to make that happen? In this video tip from Cadalyst and Lynn Allen, you’ll see how to quickly make your text readable for everyone with the handy TOrient Express Tool. This tool works on text, mtext, attribute definitions, and attributes within blocks.
Hello there, this is Lynn Allen. Welcome to another AutoCAD Tip, courtesy of Cadalyst magazine.
First thing I'm going to have correct a terrible wrong from my last video tip. So apparently I lied to you. How do you feel about that? After you trusted me after all of these tips, and after all we've meant to each other. So I told you last time that the function key F12 doesn't do anything in AutoCAD. That is wrong. As soon as I told you that, millions of people sent me emails and Tweeted me to tell me that was incorrect. In fact, it does Dynamic Input. I apologize so much. I'm so sorry. Please forgive me. It doesn't show up at the command line when you hit F12. Nothing. I got nothing. But if I move my cursor down to the status bar where Dynamic mode is, or Dynamic Input, and I hit F12. You see, it turns it on. It turns it off. It turns it on. It turns it off. So, I apologize for leading you astray.
So let's move forward. Let's get past that, bygones, right? So let's talk about a new tip. Let's talk about an awesome Express Tool -- you know how much I love my Express Tools -- called TOrient. Awesome, if anyone has ever sent you a drawing where it's difficult to read the text. For example, It's kind of tricky to read this one. I would have to stand on my head to read this one. This one is also tough. These guys are okay though, right? Great, great, great command.
You can type in TOrient or you can go to the Express Tools tab on the Ribbon and you can drop this down and go to Rotate. And you can see there that it will execute the TOrient command. All right, I'm going to go ahead, and I'm going to put a window around this text here. Then hit Enter. You'll see there's an option that says Most Readable, and I'll hit an extra Enter and you'll see it fixed that text that was difficult to read. I don't have to stand on my head anymore. And now it's very easy to read that text. So, if someone hands you a drawing where the text is not that easy to read because it's not quite going the right direction, this command is going to help you out.
The other cool thing I like about TOrient is that it keeps it in the same location. It doesn't move it all around. If you were just to rotate it around, it would mess it all up. So this is awesome command. It rotates it via the middle point. Awesome. So let's see what else. What else can you do -- yes, there's more. So let's say, I don't know what angle this text is it, but I know it should be at a 45 degree angle. TOrient also does a great job at that. I'll type it in just to make you guys happy. For those of you who don't like the Ribbon -- the Ribbon Rebels, you know who you are. I'm going to go ahead and grab this text over here. And you will see there is an option for Absolute Rotation as well. And I'll know what angle it is at. So it's all the same angle. It could be totally different angles. That doesn't make any difference. I need it all to be at a 45 degree angle. And I adjusted it accordingly. Awesome. That's also much easier in some cases than going into the Rotate command. So awesome. Easy to use. And I think you are going to love it.
So try TOrient, and hopefully I have everything right this week. I'm sure if I don't, you will send me an email. Thank you so much for your time, and I will see you back here in two more weeks.
