Ryzen, an RX 480, and linux kernel support

Hello all,

I just built my first fully Team Red build, with a Ryzen 7 1700, and an RX 480 at the core.  Super happy with all the performance, but there is one nagging problem I have.  I run both Windows (for games) and Linux (for software development stuff/classes).

Currently amdgpu-pro is supported on up to the 4.8 kernel from everything I have read.  This leaves me in a bit of a bind.  They Ryzen CPUs are best supported on 4.10 kernel, or 4.9 (with the back-ported patch).  My motherboard's onboard sound will only begin to be supported in 4.11 (not AMDs fault).

This currently leaves me with two options:

1) Good CPU support/performance and meh GPU support.  IE no amdgpu-pro, only the opensource kernel module.

2) Good GPU support/performance, and terrible threading in linux.

Any word on when the amdgpu-pro driver will support newer kernels?  Seems not so great that I got this pretty nice system with AMD at the heart, and yet wish I had stuck with Nvidia GPUs for their driver support.

Thanks,

Jason
