McLaren and Specialized Introduce the McLaren x Roubaix Bicycle

While McLaren Automotive is known for designing and manufacturing some of the world’s fastest supercars, they’ve never been one to shy away from lending their expertise to the design of lower-tech vehicles, too—particularly, the bicycle.

More recently, the British Automaker teamed up with Specialized Bicycles to celebrate their 50th year of Grand Prix racing and pay homage with the limited-edition McLaren S-Works Roubaix.

While the unmistakable Heritage Orange paint is a nod to the same color that McLaren painted their race cars way back in 1966, the brand storytelling details go far beyond cosmetics. In fact, no expense appears to have been spared for the McLaren x Roubaix.

The frame itself is constructed from their top-tier FACT 11r carbon fiber and is among the lightest—and most stiff—that the bicycle company has ever made.

Working in tandem with the McLaren Applied Technologies team, Specialized is also introducing the “Future Shock”; a front-fork suspension system featuring piston in the head tube that provides 20 mm of travel. The result is a smoother and faster ride that the company claims is capable of outperforming anything on the market.

Finally, the bike is outfitted with Shimano’s benchmark Dura-Ace 9150 Di2 groupset, S-Works carbon bits, and hand-built Roval CLX 32 Disc wheels with custom hubs.

Of course, capturing details from a supercar and putting them into a bicycle also includes a price tag to match. And while the McLaren x Roubaix will set you back $11,500, that’s a drop in the bucket if you’ve ever wanted to say you own a McLaren.
