Lenovo Workstations Brings the Power to Creative Professionals at IBC 2015 and Trojan Horse Was a Un

Lenovo’s high-performing workstations are powering innovation in the media and entertainment (M&E) industry at every step of the creative process – from storyboarding to graphical effects to post-production. Because of this, in September, the Workstation team leapt at the opportunity to demonstrate the power of our systems at two of the M&E industry’s most popular events for creative professionals: IBC 2015 in Amsterdam, and Trojan Horse Was a Unicorn (THU) in Troia, Portugal.

IBC 2015

Held annually, IBC is the second largest M&E event in Europe and a global destination for discussion and debate among M&E professionals about the challenges facing the industry. The conference brings together some of the foremost thought leaders, innovators and policy makers in their fields and covers a wide range of topics. This year’s event broke all previous attendance records, with more than 55,000 attendees from around the world.

This was our first time having a booth at IBC, and we couldn’t have been more impressed by the event and the quality of attendees. At the Lenovo booth, we showcased our full lineup of Lenovo ThinkStation P Series desktops as well as the European debut of our Lenovo ThinkPad P Series mobile workstations. Specifically, we highlighted key features of these machines such as our Thunderbolt 3 ports, Ultra HD 4K displays on our P Series mobile workstations, new NVIDIA GPU technology and other standout features.

Just as important as product features, however, is applications, and we had these in spades. More importantly, we had our partners from Autodesk and The Foundry on-hand with graphic artists demonstrating unique and innovative uses of their applications, such as May and 3D Studio (Autodesk) and Nuke and Mari (The Foundry). These artist showcases were a big hit with the audience, and proved to be the ideal collaboration between Lenovo Workstations and our ISV partners.

We also featured a full-rack high-performance computing (HPC) solution running NICE software, as well as other innovative technologies. Lenovo was represented by an international team from Germany, Belgium, the UK and the United States, all of whom held meetings with various partners, resellers and press attendees as well as high-quality conversations with potential customers. In all, we demonstrated Lenovo’s dedication to standing out in a crowded environment with our innovative workstations; highlighting our engineering and design capabilities as well as the best components on the market.

Trojan Horse Was a Unicorn

Though a smaller event than IBC (sellout attendance of 700 attendees total), THU was still a critical showcase for our workstations, as it brings together some of the best talent from around the world in computer-generated art, Hollywood visual effects, game design and animation. The conference covered a broad spectrum of design that included 3D modeling, sculpting, animation, motion capture (MOCAP), 2D visual effects, illustration and game art – all of which are ideal applications for Lenovo workstations.

Some of the companies in attendance at THU were: Juice, Platige, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Innogames, Wooga, Method Studios, Ilion Animation Studios, Framestore, Riot Games, Nordeus, Blue Dream Studios, Nebula Studios, Blizzard Entertainment, Supercell, EA, CAPCOM, Moving Picture Company, The Mill, and Ubisoft. Simply put, THU hosts and attracts the high-value, upper-tier players from film, television and game development industries.

With a focus on learning, networking, educating and having fun, the Lenovo Workstations team used the event as an opportunity to hold good conversations with potential customers and partners on how our high-performing workstations and mobile workstations can ensure greater productivity in their work.

Overall, both THU and IBC 2015 were hugely successful events for the Lenovo Workstation team, as we continue to forge ahead into the M&E marketplace and get the word out around the world about the power and performance of our solutions. The Lenovo Workstation team would like to give special thanks to our partners, including NVIDIA, Intel, Autodesk and The Foundry, for their support and everyone else that helped make both shows such great experiences.
