Marcus Bree knows buildings. The engineer and architect fan has been creating highly detailed models of prominent buildings and landmarks since 2008, including the Sydney Opera House and the Guggenheim. He’s now setting his sights on the iconic Farnsworth House designed and constructed by famed architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe back in 1951.

The modern steel and glass house was commissioned by Dr. Edith Farnsworth as a getaway home where she could study and engage in her many hobbies, including playing the violin and translating poetry. Marcus on the other hand, used it to design and craft a detailed model replica he’s offering architecture fans on Kickstarter.

Marcus states during the development process, he explores many different approaches to building the model, “My aim is to make the construction process as easy as possible while remaining true to the essence of the building and the integrity of the materials I use.”

To create his model, Marcus employed several techniques and media to get an identical representation of the house, “Components are modeled in 3D and physical pieces are cut and re-cut numerous times while I perfect the parts to ensure trouble free assembly.”

The model itself measures out at W 250mm x H 110mm (tree) x D 150mm and comes with an elegant wooden travel/storage box and instructions on how to piece it together, which are the actual 3D design images used to create the model.

Those interested in getting their hands on Marcus’s Farnsworth Home model can head over to the Kickstarter campaign and pledge $120 AUD ($92 USD) and up, which gets you the model with other perks (including a acrylic display case) available for higher pledge amounts, with an estimated delivery of November 2017.
